Michael J. O'Connor, Jr.
Mike O'Connor is a partner with Andrews • Lagasse • Branch & Bell LLP and has been with the firm since its inception. Mr. O'Connor represents institutional and individual client interests throughout California and Nevada.
Mr. O'Connor regularly represents employers and businesses in their defense of class, representative and collective actions in State and Federal court, including wage and hour, PAGA, Fair Credit and Reporting Act, and Telephone Consumer Protection Act claims. He also assists his clients with regulatory compliance. In his individual employment claims practice, Mr. O'Connor represents employers in claims ranging from wrongful termination and retaliation to gender, race, age, pregnancy and disability-based discrimination and harassment. Mr. O'Connor also represents businesses and professional clients in commercial, construction, and ADA/access-related disputes and litigation.
In addition to assisting clients with litigation and pre-litigation advice, Mr. O'Connor assists clients with a variety of transactional matters, including contract review, negotiation and implementation. In his sports and entertainment practice, Mr. O'Connor represents athletes, entertainers, coaches, teams, universities, and bowl game associations with regard to a variety of matters, including endorsements, marketing and licensing, compliance, investigations and grievances, alternative dispute resolution, arbitration and litigation.
Mr. O'Connor was voted a Southern California Super Lawyer in the area of Employment Law by his peers in 2013 and 2014, an award that recognizes the top 5% of California attorneys. Mr. O'Connor is admitted to practice law in the state and federal district courts of California and Nevada. He is a member of the Sports Lawyers Association and the ABA Forum Committee on the Sports and Entertainment Industries. He also serves on the Executive Committee for the San Diego Bowl Game Association, which organizes the National University Holiday Bowl and the San Diego Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, and related events, helping generate an annual estimated economic impact of over $50 million for the greater San Diego region.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. O'Connor was an associate at one of California's largest law firms, and prior to that served as General Counsel to a privately held financial products and services company. Mr. O'Connor earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law, earning honors in Negotiations, Public Policy, and Mexican Law. He represented USD at the National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition and was editor of the USD International Law Journal. Mr. O'Connor received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.
